HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

The Albatros CIII was an all purpose reconnaisance aircraft. It was introducd in December 1915 and remained in production until the end of the war. It served on the Western and Eastern fronts as well as Palestine. After 1917, it was eclipsed by more powerful C-types such as the Rumpler C.IV and DFW C.V. The aircraft was noted for it's excellent flying qualities and as such it found favor as a trainer after it's combat carreer was over. All told, about 65% of them were ordered as trainers, with unfilled orders through 1918.
